We are riders - this fact has characterised every decision we have made since 1974. Because there were no high-quality tyres back then, we made it our mission to develop the very best tyres. When people around us started to go off-road more and more, we started producing our first mountain bikes. Because roadies always wanted to ride faster and even faster, we invested in carbon development and built our own wind tunnel. And because we realised that we could help schoolchildren learn through cycling, we founded the Specialized Foundation.
Because mountain bikes need trails
As mountain bikes took over the mountain world, inevitably the world's first trail access issues arose. In 1987 we sat down with a number of lobbyists and interest groups and within six months the International Mountain Bike Association \ (IMBAI) was born. In short, we became trail advocates. We co-sponsored the first industry meeting on the topic and some of our colleagues became part of the IMBA board. Without trail advocates, there would be no trails worth protecting and maintaining. Quite simply.
