Good news from northern Germany: As of July 16, 2022, numerous companies in Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and northwestern Lower Saxony that are bound by collective agreements will be entitled to offer their employees company bike leasing via salary conversion. This was agreed by IG Metall Küste and the Nordmetall Employer’s Association.

Modernization package for some 130,000 employees in northern Germany

The addition of a bike leasing option, financed through salary conversion, to collective bargaining agreements is part of a comprehensive modernization package agreed upon by the collective bargaining parties at the end of June. The associated collective bargaining agreements apply to around 130,000 employees in the metal and electrical industry. Until now, these employees have not been able to benefit from the advantages of company bike leasing. Thanks to the new agreements, this is now changing. The only prerequisite for employees to be offered this option is that the employer and the works council of the respective companies agree on a corresponding voluntary company agreement.

Promoting healthy and sustainable mobility through bike leasing

We at Bikeleasing-Service are very pleased that two more major players, IG Metall Küste and Nordmetall, have decided to take this step towards climate-friendly mobility, thus creating the opportunity for many more employees to use a company bike as a sustainable and healthy alternative to the company car. As a company bike provider, we know that interest in company bikes continues to grow among both employers and employees, and we are confident that many more trade unions will follow this good example.
