Bikeleasing now available to Saxony’s metal and electrical companies bound by collective bargaining agreements

Summer, sunshine, company bike time. This is now also true for many employees in the metal and electrical industry in Saxony, because the new Collective Agreement on Bicycle Leasing, which IG Metall concluded with Saxony’s employers, has taken effect on July 1, 2023. This agreement provides the framework for companies bound by collective bargaining agreements to offer their employees company bike leasing by way of salary conversion. The prerequisite for this is that the employer and works council agree on an associated company agreement.

Key points of the Collective Agreement on Bicycle Leasing

IG Metall and Saxony’s employers have agreed on the following points, set forth in the Collective Agreement on Bicycle Leasing:
 

  • Provided that a corresponding company agreement is in place, the company’s employees have the option of leasing a company bicycle through their employer.
  • Within the framework of bike leasing via salary conversion, the employer leases the bike or e-bike selected by the employee and provides it to the employee for use.
  • The monthly lease payment is deducted from the employee’s gross remuneration, reducing the taxable income as well as social security contributions.
  • The employee is entitled to use the leased company bike privately as well. The associated monetary benefit is taxed at 0.25 percent of the bike’s list price per month.
  • For employees of bound by collective bargaining agreements concluded by IG Metall, a maximum of € 2,904.96 of the collectively agreed remuneration may be used for company bicycle leasing per year. That is € 242.08 per month.
